i wrote a while back about extreme cropping and how sometimes we need to search for the image within an image.
well, i want to get your opinion. this is another picture of emily g. that i took, and for whatever reason my eye is very drawn to it. it's nothing fancy, but it's exactly what it is that i like.
but i also felt like something might have been a little off, so i tried cropping it differently and wondered what y'all thought. which do you prefer?

With all your mad photoshop skillz, can you pick her out and put her back down on the far left in the wide shot?
ReplyDeleteOr perhaps, in the wide shot, just crop the left side and leave the right as is...? You may need to crop the bottom a little to keep it in balance.
zoom zoom
ReplyDeletego with your gut, i like the O.G. better, more context
ReplyDeleteoriginal has a great line of the trail going out to the right of the frame but I'd like to see Emily at the 1/3 mark vs. over to the right like she is.
ReplyDeleteZoom zoom loses the context (road, baylands, sky) but draws all the attention to Emily.
It depends on what you're going for and what story you want the picture to tell.
I like the first one because of the path in the background...I think it adds character
ReplyDeleteI vote for the original. Just because I want to look at that one more than the others.
ReplyDeleteI don't know maybe zoom too. I want the road to be prominent. Where is she going, what will she do, what is she thinking? The road gets me to ask those questions....
ReplyDeletethank you, liz, for breaking the rule of thirds and for keeping the horizon crooked. i like the original the best, it tells a much bigger story. it's beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteeach tells a different story. i like the first instinct you had- for me, the first instinct tends to be the strongest in most everything. i feel like original has more space to speak of her and you.
ReplyDeletesame here. i like your original the best.
ReplyDeletei like a :) I like the perspective of the shot and the backdrop. The combination is great.
ReplyDeletethanks for all your opinions. i'd say my favorite is the original. my eyes are drawn to that white dirt path we were on and i like that emily g. is set in context.
ReplyDeletei like the original but (c) is beautiful for more movement.
ReplyDeleteThere's a certain sense of mystery and intrigue in the original.
