scott robert workshop, part VI

Meet Sona. She was one of the models that patiently let me pose her and tell her what I wanted her to do while struggling to figure out something - anything! Her and Adam (fiance) just finished med school and are getting married in a couple weeks. Congratulations!

Someone directed this shot, and I can't remember who it was!

Immediately after we got off the ship in Cozumel.

To know how to pose someone, you must be able to demonstrate it yourself. That's fair, right?

These women know how to work it!

scott robert workshop, part IV

I looked up and saw the group with all of their large professional looking equipment walk along the balcony. Faces unknown, experience lacking, long day traveling. I felt insecurity trying really hard to make his way into my mind and heart. Filled slightly with fear and unfamiliarity, I held my breath while walking upstairs. Each step I took forced me to get closer to this mass of human bodies and camera equipment I didn't know and felt intimidated by.

But there was a moment -- a defining moment -- when I decided I was going to dig in. No matter what, I was going to be there: present, teachable, and open. Of course it wasn't that clear in my head in the moment, but in retrospect, I can see what that moment rippled into.

It manifested as a, "hi, i'm liz" + big smile.

The ripples that came after that took form as new friendships, willingness to fail, asking lots of questions, trying new things, laughter, jokes, fun, freedom, immense learning, and eyes & heart wide open.

This is Scott during our Cozumel Mexico shoot.

Inspired.

These are shots that I submitted for critique on the 3rd day.

Can't remember who directed this shot.

I am:
Tan.
Connected.
Enriched.
& INSPIRED.

Scott's Next Level workshop was a blast. It felt similar to college dorm life, but way more fun! We took lots of pictures, ate, lounged, post-processed, joked around, listened to Scott talk about taking our photography to the Next Level (every 5 minutes), danced to the same club playlist each night, and explored new colorful places. It was enriching to connect with people who are on a similar journey discovering (or exploring) a passion that makes us come alive.

I was pretty sad to say good bye...

scott robert workshop, part I

At Denver airport, where I was held up for 4 hours b/c of technical difficulties. This pilot was just standing there and while walking by snapped a few.

loco - part I

These are the large lips of a horse I finally got to meet. His name is Loco and he's the love of my friend's life. ;-)
More pics to come of that photoshoot, but possibly not for an entire week!

YES, I know... how could I?
I'm going to be attending a photography workshop in the Caribbean and won't be back until Friday night. But to make life enjoyable, I thought I'd point you back to a fun post from each month, starting from November. Click on one each day, as if it were a daily post.

Ciao!

sometimes spam makes me chuckle

Have you ever read through the catchy titles in your spam box (right before you click delete all forever and ever)? I mean, these are the things that are supposed to make you stop and think...."Are All the Good Men in Palo Alto [Really] Taken?" Wow, I better click on that link right away before I lose my opportunity of meeting a good Palo Altonian man.

Or maybe I'll be compelled to click to find out what that "Weapon Used to Make Love" is.

Or gosh, I was just thinking that I needed "Relief from all diseases!"

Why don't you just spam me now!

baby was happy today

Lunch time at work today. We had quite a spread, including this very chicken-like ingredient called Quorn. (It seriously looked, tasted, and felt like chicken even though it is meat-free and soy-free, made primarily of mycoprotein -- oh, everyone knows about MYCOPROTEIN).

My favorite: milk chocolate covered strawberries.

hu(g)e decision

I can't decide on the hue of blue. I'm getting close to picking the color I'm going to paint my room, but I'm finding that committing to a color is more challenging that I expected.

There are all these "what if" questions that keep popping up in my head.

dogs of the bay - san francisco

just for fun.

blood sucker!

I was aiming for a nice leisurely walk through the secret garden at a parish near my house. And, it was nice for a moment...until I suddenly felt pricked by a giant mosquito! I shoo'ed it away, but it kept following me. I quickly walked away and went toward a bench (as if that would keep it away) for retreat. Felt fine for a minute, but allergies started acting up so decided to go back to the local cafe to just chill out while my laundry was cookin'. On my way there, I see the same giant mosquito trying to get some action.

The serenity turned into a mosquito & bee fest and bites for me.

self-portrait 4

I wanted do something totally crazy for the April self-portrait. So I went really wild with this shot - REALLY WILD.

While in San Diego, I got a haircut from this korean lady that my sister goes to.

Me: "I sort of want bangs, but I duno...they usually come out bad on me."
Korean Lady with accent: [Thinks and flips my hair around a little.] "I'll make your dreams come true!"

It sounded so convincing, I couldn't resist. Next time I go back, I'm not just getting my hair cut...I'm going to ask her to make my dream of owning a pony come true.

the last moments

I fought Sage for her small terry cloth whale. Rar. I bit the whale's head while she grabbed onto the tail. She found it particularly hilarious that I kept biting her favorite toy (second to the kazoo) the same way she does. She wouldn't stop laughing until it was finally meal time - then she got all serious because she's just CRAZY LIKE THAT.

I leave you with this picture of Sage's little teeth. She already has TWO! They usually just sit there and pose for auntie Liz when they aren't being maximized to help break down that tough breast milk.

This concludes this series of Sage pics. Hope you had as much fun looking at the pictures as I did. :-)

uh huh

Check out those claw hands.

Sage wasn't the one who put those plastic toys on her head.

it only gets better

Sage, I think you meant to grab the sunglasses on your face, not in the air. You see....she lost all sense of orientation because somehow she thought her eyes were shut closed as soon as we put these sunglasses on her. By the shape of her mouth, you can tell she was having a real thrill.

This one is priceless.

friends in all places

Sage sticks out her tongue for just about anything. It's her permanent feeler that helps her gauge if something's edible. If the little feeler determines that it is, she'll open her mouth wider and *munch*! Sage is in for a treat with the velcro at the end of that green strap.

Sage has a new friend that lives inside of her shirt. Guess who put it in there.

Sage was playing the kazoo for her birdie. Guess who brought that for her.

Too bad the sound only comes out the other end. That's okay, birdie still looks pretty happy nestled in there like that.

grip. crunch. suck. sniff.

Sage has a Dr. Evil-like grip on carrot sticks.

Sage isn't messin' around. She has a mean "crunch!"

Sage likes to suck on to carrot with one hand and make sure she's gives Cookie Monster some Dr. Evil pinky action with the other hand.

Sage likes to sniff carrot. I think Cookie Monster's afraid what Sage might to do him with carrot. His eyes went cross-eyed in the process of this photo shoot.

it's the first day of SAGE week

It's official, it's SAGE week. I'm back from San Diego, and I have a LOT of pictures to share. (I didn't take 900 like last time; only 400). In fact, I'm going to dedicate the rest of this week to post some pretty frickin awesome pics of her. I promise they will make you tingle inside -- and I know y'all like that tingly sensation.

To start, this is when I tried to get Sage to crawl to me b/c I had the milk bottle. She didn't budge and just looked at me like..."Uh, anytime now. I'm not messin' around, AUNT."

o SD: upcoming

I'm flying to San Diego this weekend, leaving tomorrow morning at 7am. (I'm lucky to have one of my roommates to drive me all the way to SFO at 6am on a Saturday--a precious sleep-in Saturday.) I get to see Sage for 3 days! I heard she's like a 20 pound bag of potatoes; lumpy but way cuter! Someone will have to hold me back from smothering her with kisses and gnaws.

My sister: "You're gonna die when you see her."
Me: "Oh my gosh, I can't wait!"

Hmm...

Internet, as soon as I get a chance, I'm gonna post my next o SD series. Stay tuned!

embrace

I love this lil guy.

Me: "Do you want to cuddle with auntie liz?"
Joshua: "Yes" (in his quiet whispy voice)
Me&Joshua: Picked him up and he nuzzled in head on my shoulder on the way to the den.
Then, we fell asleep together on the couch he was bouncing off of earlier that evening.

stay off hillside

Bayfront Park in Menlo Park had a sign that commanded me to "stay off hillside," but that's exactly what I didn't do. Plus, when I looked over the edge, the hill wasn't particularly steep.
I went there after work to breathe deep breaths - it worked.

fry me!

I saw pictures of french fries and now I want some. Real bad.
