Signed, P.Squiggle

I used to contemplate the vastness of life while sitting on this squiggle overlooking monterey bay. Now, I just sit on my bed that overlooks white walls, and blog about random snippets of life to the internet.

Hi Internet.

the best kisser

Heather: "Can you give Auntie Liz a kiss?"

James: [Action] *blink blink*, walks over and delicately places his lips on my cheek

Liz: "Aw, thank. You're the best kisser ever!"

Once I figured out how easy it'd be to keep receiving kisses, the only thing that kept coming out of my mouth was, "James...can I get a kiss?" Most of those kisses came in the form of a nose-bop on my cheek, but I didn't discriminate.

Thank you, you hunk-of-a-chunk!

butterhead

I wonder if this transplant comes with a written guarantee that anyone can become a frizzy headed drunken woman by consuming this species of butterhead lettuce. Steve from Cole Canyon Farm was offering these goodies at the farmer's market on Sunday. This may be the cheapest $3 answer for men who want to become women - forget an expensive sex change! The only downside is that it comes at the cost of being frizzy headed, drunken, and slow to bolt.

giant

Being only 2 1/2 feet tall and 2 years old probably presents its own set of difficulties and perspectives. Try having to identify people mainly by their nostrils.

One time at the Tofu House, a young girl was surrounded by a lot of Asian adults at the restaurant entrance. Discombobulated, she suddenly grabbed my hand and started walking with me toward my table. I was a little surprised by this warm little trusting hand in mine; and I will never forget her reaction and expression when she looked up (and I'm not even that tall) and realized that I was NOT her mom. She threw my hand out of hers as if I had poo on it and glared at me with a harsh mix of betrayal and sheer fright. I mean, I just thought I made a new little friend.

o SD: Day 4

Sage is thinking, "Oh yeah, Auntie Liz is definitely
the one that like to nibble on me."

There must be something tasty above Sage's upper lip that we can't see because her tongue sure likes to spend a lot of time up there.

And that concludes my "o SD" series!

To come: the sleeping stranger man.

o SD: Day 3

I really didn't do anything while in San Diego except take pictures of Sage. In fact, I took a few shy of 900 pictures within 4 days. I played with Sage, ate, slept, and had ice cream every day.

o SD: Day 1

Baby oatmeal + prune juice = Sage looking like she had a feast after getting into her diaper and using her new motor skills to shovel "nasties" into her mouth. Two things: 1) She looks like she might puke in about 7 seconds, and 2) Her bib: thank heaven for little girls.

When my sister first picked me up from the airport, I got into the back seat and sat next to Sage during the drive home. For the first 5 minutes or so, she just stared at me. She examined my face and tried quite hard to figure out where she had seen me before. "No, not quite mama....and definitely not grandma. hmmmm... I think you're the one that likes to nibble on my cheeks, thighs, ears, and toes. Liz Im-mo!! (Im-mo="aunt on mom's side" in Korean). On my end during those 5 minutes, I felt like she was searching the depths of my soul and was afraid that she would figure out my inner most secrets. I needed to look away quickly before she found out too much.

Who'd she learn that from?

we don't just feed her food

This is who I've been spending the last couple days with. My next series will be on the newly 6.5 month old that stole my heart. Oh, the pictures will be worth the wait. Here's a teaser before the real thing.

In 25 years

Honestly, a tribute to Valentine's Day? Yes, I bought in...I had to....today was the best Valentine's Day ever in 25 years. It gave my roommates and I to make light of a holiday I especially don't enjoy.

Last month, while in LA, I saw an ad for Step Up 2: The Streets. I decided I would have to see it when it premiered on 2/14. So, Nyam, Nat and I got in our pjs and headed over to Shoreline to make sure we got seats for the best dancing movie I've ever seen! YES, the BEST. I'm such a nuthead for bad acting dance movies. I even squealed out loud in glee at one point, and kicked my legs up and down b/c I was so happy.

I'm headed to San Diego for the weekend to visit my sis, bro-in-law, and sage. I think I might come back with about a thousand pictures of the cutest baby ever.

This picture was taken at the Palace of Fine Arts.

the big O in h-O-p-e

I'm not political, and definitely not very patriotic (though I will gladly accept this Monday's President's Day holiday). But, I felt inspired today when I saw this flag fluttering in the wind while walking around the RWC.

I felt inspired by what this flag can mean under the leadership of Obama. Let me be clear, I don't know a ton about him and haven't been regularly following the presidential campaigns... but every time I hear about O on npr or hear a snippet of his speeches, I get goosebumps all over and I seriously "tingle inside." My gut says that he will unite this nation and lead us in a way that is radical, exciting, and risky -- in all the right ways.

"
It's not just enough to change the players. We've gotta change the game." Barack Obama, Jan 2007

He gets it.

rowr

Yes, he was really that cute.

3 plates too much

This is what happens when you eat too much at an Italian potluck. You lose all your hair until you only have three long strands left; you become extremely emaciated everywhere but your belly; and your voice starts coming out of the crown of your head and not your mouth. Be careful.

one day

eccentric

I raised my hand when Tommy Emmanuel asked who in the audience was here seeing for the first time. To date, this was the best show I've ever been to. Tommy's amazing musical skills were infused with his eccentric personality and spastic bodily movements, creating an entertaining live show that made me laugh out loud many times. He's seems like one of those really different human beings. Eccentric, big-hearted, humble... being exactly who he's created to be. Thanks BZ.

dash out!

We ran around in teams of two at work today. We played Hyper Dash, a game where players have to "strike" the mini domes with a low-tech gadget that looks like a joystick. You have to beat the clock and beat the other teams' scores. And no, they are not this close together...the domes are spread out, so you have to book it to get to all of them. I was most impressed by my colleagues who played wearing heels. "Double Strike!"

self-portrait 2

I'm trying to take pictures everyday this year as a way to photojournal 2008. As part of that process, I'll document me around this time of every month. I'm contemplating whether or not they will all be of me with a large black object in front of my face....maybe red?

yes we can

Dropped off my ballot at 7:35pm today.

look up

I'm often inspired by looking up...or down...or sideways....or getting real low (b/c I can't easily get real high-I'm 5'3"). Today, while doing my usual walk around the neighborhood, I ran into some colleagues that pointed out a random extension cord hanging from an awning. It's striking how a different perspective can alter the way you think about/understand/experience something.

orange and yellow 2

The other orange and yellow post is here.

#5

Saturday made it #5. I've lost the second half of 5 of my favorite earrings and it's driving me crazy. They're catapulting out of my ear hole like long jumpers trying to win gold at the olympics.

big feet

I met Micah today at a Chinese New Year's get together. He was rather shy at first, but he seemed to warm up to me pretty soon after. I must've been sending all the right signals because before I knew it, he couldn't get enough of me and even rejected his mom to sit on my lap. I have been called The Baby Whisperer before. In fact, I just signed a contract to make a minor motion picture about my special whispering abilities.

Oh yeah, that's right I was talking about Micah, not me. Anyway, I saw him trying to get into my shoes and to walk around. I love the left on right/right on left shoe thing that all kids do. I can understand why - I too really like that feeling of my shoes fitting uncomfortably snug.

Change creates options and opportunities. Yesterday, my roommate and I were supposed to go to Oakland for a community dinner, but the friend hosting it called back and said.."oh! I'm in Vegas!"

We had just hit the fork on the 101N where it splits off to the 80E when we heard the news, and at the very last second, decided to go left into the city. From turn to turn, decision to decision, we let the moment decide where we would end up. We were open to adventure and open to each other.

Our random stream of choices brought us to the Fillmore neighborhood where we had dinner and walked around in the painful cold. Later, we found ourselves in the Lower Haight at a random dive bar surrounded a random mix of people we're normally not around, drinking our beer and cider.

"I'm happy," said Liz.
"Me too, " Nat replied.

blue+green

Sometimes in this seemingly dull world, I come across bright lights that create something joyful in unexpected places. I see two special friends playfully sharing secrets about each other to the other. What do you see?
